Hot Prairie Pear Jam

This one came from across the fence. Our Hot Prairie Pear Jam came about when the neighbor's pear tree became too heavy to ignore, we were handed a basket and told, "Take what you want." So, we did. Once in the kitchen, mom added jalapeños, habaneros, and a good shake of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg just to see where it would take us.

The result is sweet and spiced at first, with a slow-building heat that finishes with a gentle kick. The pears bring everything together with a soft, mellow flavor that plays well with cheese, meats, and roasted vegetables. It tastes like autumn with a bold twist.
